FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)

FAQ's: PEDOMETERS

Q. Why are pedometers so motivating to the people that have them?

Pedometers create obvious feedback on how active a person is being. They create an awareness that inspires people to take more steps each and every day!

Q. Why can't I read the numbers on my pedometer screen?

All our EverybodyFit pedometers are equipped with an LCD Screen. Check the battery of the pedometer if you are having trouble seeing this screen. If a new battery doesn't solve the problem, contact us.

Q. Is my pedometer broken if I have less steps than my walking partners even though we walked the same distance?

No.  The reason your pedometer is reading less steps than your walking buddies is because your stride length (the average distance between each of your steps) is longer than their stride lengths.  That means it takes less steps for you to walk to same distance.  Don't get discouraged! Concentrate on increasing your personal step count each day with your weekly goals.

(See 10,000 Steps Program for more instructions.)

FAQ's: 10,000 STEPS PROGRAM

Q. Should students strive for more than 10,000 steps a day?

Most adults try to take 10,000 steps a day, but most students can handle a goal of 11,000-13,000.

Q. How can I increase my daily step counts?

There are many ways you can easily increase your daily step count. One suggestion- when you can, take the longer walking route...to your desk, to the restrooms, etc. Click on FIT TIPS for more suggestions.

Q. What is the conversion of steps to miles?

The average conversion from steps to miles is 2,000 steps = 1 mile. The exact number varies for each individual due to his/her stride length, type of terrain, etc.

FAQ's: The "No Cheater" Pedometer - EBF-JW02 Activity Step

Q. Why is the EBF-JW02 ACTIVITY STEP the best pedometer available?

  1. It accurately records your steps - a necessity in any 10,000 Steps program;
  2. It accurately records your activity time - doctors recommend 30 minutes daily;
  3. It is very simple to use;
  4. The manufacturer produces quality pedometers (year after year);
  5. And the best feature is...the "no cheating" results!

Q. What qualifies as "cheating" results?

Any slight movement can register as a step on other pedometers, like sliding from one part of your cubicle to another in your desk chair or shifting your position while driving. The "No Cheater Pedometer" eliminates these movements from your daily step count by not registering your steps until you take 5 consecutive steps. The couple of steps from your desk to the book shelf won't count towards your daily step total.  To reach your goals, you have to move more - and this resulting aerobic activity is the key to a healthier body!

A Comparative Example:

Jim uses the EBFJW01 STEP, a very accurate step pedometer that gives him steps for daily activities like getting up and down from his office chair, stepping to the copy machine, or getting up to talk to an employee next to him.  (Total insignificant steps for the day would probably be around 1000 steps per day.)

Libby, on the other hand, just put on the EBFJW02 ACTIVITY STEP (a.k.a. the "No Cheater" pedometer).  She has a very similiar position with the same company and does many of the same activities that Jim does.  (Total insignificant steps for the day is 0 and she is not allowed to accumulate activity time for those insignificant steps either).

Q. Why purchase the "No Cheater Pedometer" for your employees?

  • For their health & well-being - Reaching for both daily goals of 10,000 steps a day and 30 minutes of physical activity are essential ingredients to a healthy lifestyle and are recommended by so many healthcare professionals in the country today;
  • Because your company will save thousands of healthcare dollars - preventing health problems is the number one way to cut healthcare costs - with the added bonus of enriching the lives and productivity levels of the people who work for you;
  • And because the "No Cheater Pedometer" is made by the same Joy Walker manufacturer that has been producing high quality, accurate, durable, and dependable pedometers for years.
